Another reason why I hate Windows...

It restarts automatically once it finishes a set of updates...

Windows certainly asks the user whether he/she would like to restart the system for the updates to take place. However, if the user does not respond in like 3~5 minutes, Windows would automatically restart...

 

I guess it doesn't behave that way all the time, since not all updates require system restart. However, if it's the case when it needs to restart it can really be a pain for the user... 

You know what I'm talking about???

You feel me???

Loss of lots of lots of work... Especially for the work that cannot be saved... 

Like opened web pages in browsers...

So... here is what happened...

I was looking for information on using Windows Crypto API in curl which was built against openSSL to use the Windows certificate system store for certificate validation. I saw the yellow shield icon on the bottom right corner which appears whenever Windows needed an updated. As usual, I clicked that icon and started the update. As the update was finished, Windows prompted me whether I wanted to reboot... I said no... I was in the middle of an important quest to find critical information for my work on the Internet, so I did not want to lose the pages that I have found. 

Anyway, it kept asking every couple of minutes whether I wanted to restart Windows with a progress bar which lasted 3~5 minutes... I've seen that before, and what it does is restarts automatically when the progress bar becomes full. So I had to tell Windows not to restart every couple of minutes...

I was so into work that I didn't realize it was lunch time until one of my colleagues asked me to go eat with him. And I forgot about that automatic restart stuff... After I came back from lunch, all the pages I found was gone~ gone~ gone~

Why Why Why !!!

The operating system should know better...

Or shouldn't carry out actions that the user didn't specify...

I just hate Windows...
