Mafia Wars...

Do you Facebook?

I started doing Facebook towards the end of last year because people started to send invitations like crazy. At the time I joined Facebook, I really had no idea how much I would get involved with the activities happening there. I just thought it's going to be some kind of trend of joining another type of cyber space human networking service. Really, Facebook did not seem to be attractive to me at all. Here are some services that were popular and went dead soon in the past 10 years...

• I love school
• Freechal
• Cyworld (although it's still being used widely, it's not as popular as before)
• Xanga (It's supposed to be a blogging service)

and so on...

Facebook wasn't that all attractive to me since it looked too simple and I thought there was no distinction among other services. However... I started catching up on using  the variety of services provided by the name applications. I think Facebook makes it possible to deliver many services by delegating the service providing tasks to the third party. Facebook provides many services through what is called applications(as I mentioned above). And it seems like applications are built by third party vendor, organization, individual, or whatever~.

So far, 2009 College Basketbal Bracket Challenge, Cities I've Visited are the major applications I think were worth calling an application. There are many other minor applications such as finding out your American Accent, IQ tests, and etcetera which are simply answering series of questions that are provided and seeing the result. Something more like a survey type application that anyone would like to do for fun.

Anyway, I started using the Mafia Wars application since several people were requesting me to join their mafia. So I started. And it turns out that this silly little game is very addicting. I strongly urge you to play Mafia Wars if you would like to kill some time. LOL

So, my conclusion...
Facebook isn't like any other ordinary human networking service from the Internet. If it is true that anyone can make a Facebook application, the service is embracing the concept of Web 2.0 quite well.

And my bonus...
Here are some things that I was confused about Mafia Wars in case you want to start.

1. Fighting against other mafias do not require any energy.
2. Personally stamina isn't that so important. I would say 3 is enough. Don't increase your stamina in the begining when you initially have several skill points to start with.
3. The larger the mafia family, the better. (Join my mafia family)
4. You need bunch of good weapons and armors. Each member of your family will fight with you weapons and armors(the best from what you got) and not theirs.
